What to Know Before You Lease
Here are some guidelines before committing to a commercial lease:
- Determine whether the rent covers utilities, taxes, and maintenance.
- Get an option to renew and lock in a renewal rate.
- Specify if and how a lease may be terminated.
- Get specifications for signage, including where they may be placed.
- Establish whether there will be improvements or modifications (called buildouts) added and clarify who will pay for them and own them after the lease ends.
